Blog Post #2 Research

I have found out a lot of information about Antigua and Barbuda. I decided to upload my outline to give a preview of the brief things that I will be talking about in my research paper. I've had some challenges actually trying to find information.

       I.            What are the main causes of Antigua and Barbuda’s water crisis?
II.            Antigua and Barbuda have been struggling with many issues, water shortage being the primary issue. Pollution, population expansion and deforestation are all contributing factors to the water crisis.

III.            1. Pollution, population expansion and deforestation are all contributing factors to the water crisis.
a.                   Due to the drought of the flat island, the people of the island often rely on surface and groundwater making it difficult resulting in the creation of reversal diffusion

Antigua and Barbuda

Antigua and Barbuda, Twin Islands located in between the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. It is often called the “Land of 365 Beaches” due to the enormous amount of beaches surrounding the islands. The two islands were abandoned by the colonization of the Europeans, was first settled by England in 1632. They were flooded by Britons and African slaves because the British were in control.
Christopher Columbus was the first to explore the two island which lead to the islands gaining their independence. Antigua was colonized by Britain in 1632 and Barbuda was colonized in 1678. Then later joined the West Indies Federation in 1958.  The constitutional monarchy was gained in 1984 with the Westminster-style parliament. The government, language, and culture are all heavily influenced by the British Empire. The population is 90,000 people containing Antiguan, Antiguan creole and Barbudan. The origins are British, Portuguese and Levantine Arab. The main based language are English with a population growth rate of 1.1%.

The two islands economy is based on tourism, financials and government services represented by the key sources of employment and income. Chile's, guava, tobacco, and cotton were all crops that the island was famous for. Sugar which is still discerned are grown on small farms. Because it is warm the people usually wear warm clothing dressing informally. Anyone who wears camouflage will be arrested because it is military-type clothing.

Antigua has a mostly tropical climate being that the weather is dry and warm all year round. The island are the driest Caribbean island adding to the hurricanes. Droughts often occur every five to ten years. Whenever there is a drought this causes critical water shortages. Water management is a big concern because of the limited freshwater resources. The clearing of trees to increase production, causing rainfall to run off quickly.
